IMAGES
Uploading images allows bidders to see your item and will
increase the chances of selling your item quickly. Here are
some tips to remember when uploading images:
1. Click the Browse button for the image. Find that image
located on your computer. Once you have selected an image,
click Upload. The image will appear below. Repeat this process
if you would like to add a secondary image.
2. Use images with either .jpg or .gif extensions. While you
may upload different file types, and while you might be able
to view your image just fine, other people using different
browsers or different platforms may not be able to see the
images.
3. If possible, resize your image close to the size that it
will appear on the site. The main image should have a width
of 250 pixels, while the secondary image should have a width
of 125 pixels. If you cannot resize the image, it will be
automatically resized by the Web site, but it might appear
slightly grainy.
4. If you have problems uploading your pictures, email them to
and
we will put them on the site.
ITEM
RESERVE
Item reserve is a required field when entering items. It is
the estimated value of the item you are adding. This value
determines the price you will pay for the given ad. The reserve
will not be shown when users bid on items.
Horse Jockey assumes users will be honest and give accurate
estimates on items. But in the event that an item is found
to have an inaccurate value assigned to it, Horse Jockey reserves
the right to give the item a different value, charge an additional
fee for reviewing the item value and/or remove the item from
the system without a refund.
TIPS
ON PLACING BIDS
Unlike some auction sites, you are not guaranteed a winning
bid just by having the highest bid. The user has the ability
to choose the best bid suited for the product. Here are some
things to keep in mind when choosing items to place bids:
• Invaild bids -- Bids should contain only numbers.
Don't use commas nor any other non-numeric characters. Bids
must be at least $1 and should not exceed $10 million.
• Price -- This is the most obvious objective for a
seller to select your bid. The seller is looking for a respectable
bid, so don't underbid in hopes of "stealing" a
product.
• Location -- A seller is more apt to upload his product
to you if the shipping and handling charges don't outweigh
the product sell itself. Although the buyer is responsible
for shipping, a seller would not think it reasonable that
a buyer would have more expense in shipping than the cost
of the item. You should bid on any items in which you have
interest, regardless of the location; just take into consideration
the cost of shipping from the seller's location.
• Unreasonable bids -- Sellers will quickly block you
if you submit fictitious bids, whether they are too high or
too low.
HORSE
PEDIGREE
If you are placing a horse for sale, you may want to enter
pedigree information. This material will show bidders a little
more information and should help in selling the item.
1. Once you have placed your horse for sale, find it in your
list of items for sale. On the login page, you will see a
View your current items for sale (history) link.
2. The first choice under actions is Pedigree. To add, edit
or delete a pedigree, click this link.
3. This page gives you a graphical representation of the pedigree.
On the left-hand side, you will see the name of your item
(most likely the horse name). You may insert the year foaled
as well as the color.
4. From there, you may input information representing three
generations of that horse. If you are not sure of a particular
sire or dam, you may just leave it blank.
5. Once you are finished updating the pedigree information,
click the submit button, located just below the color.
6. If you need to edit the pedigree information, you can do
this from the same pedigree link located on the Item History
page.
7. You may also delete a pedigree, if you feel it is unnecessary
to sell your item. Just click the Delete Pedigree button,
located at the top of the Horse Pedigree Edit page. You then
have the opportunity to change your mind, if you don't want
to delete the pedigree after all.
SYSTEM
STATUS
System status determines whether or not your ad is available
to the public. If status is pending (marked with a yellow
background), then your ad has not been purchased or has expired.
You must click the Renew link and follow the process. If the
status is Live (marked with a green background), your item
is live on the system. No action needs to be taken at this
time. If your ad is marked Closed (indicated with a red background),
your item has either been sold or canceled. If you wish to
make the item live again, please click the Renew link.
BLOCKING
BIDS
You may encounter users who create unreasonable bids on your
items. If these become persistent, you can block a user with
these simple steps.
1. If you are viewing a bidder's information, just click the
BLOCK BIDDER button at the bottom of the page.
2. You are then taken to the Block Bidder page, where you
can also define a reason for blocking this particular bidder.
Click the BLOCK BIDDER button to disallow the user from bidding
on your items.
You may access your blocked users from your User Management,
located on the page once you have logged into the system.
You can unblock previously blocked users if you would like
to do so.
The system administrator can block users globally, in case
there is a user who is abusing the entire system. If you encounter
a user you feel should be blocked globally, please email the
administrator at .
BID
STATUS
Bid status determines how a specific bid is viewed by the
item seller as well as the public. If the status is open (marked with a white background), the bid will appear on the site as an allowable bid. If the status is pending
(marked with a yellow background), the bid will appear on
the site with the potential to become sold, if the seller confirms the sale. If the bid is declined (indicated
with a red background), the item seller has decided the bid
is unacceptable. If the bid is accepted (green background),
the bidder has been awarded the opportunity to purchase the
item. If the bid is omitted (gray background), the bid will
not appear on the public portion of the site. Omitted bids
are reserved for those bids that are unreasonable or ones
the item seller does not want viewed as users peruse the item
detail.
ADVANCED
SEARCH
You have many options available when looking for the items
that best suit you. You will notice a search panel on the
results page, which will help you narrow your search. Here
are key features you need to know when searching:
• Search
for box: This area can be used to input an item name
or description of a specific type of items. The results returned
will be those that include the word or phrase you input.
• Category/Subcategory:
You have the ability to view all items listed within a certain
category, as well as being able to define that subcategory.
If you perform a category search, the category and subcategory
will always appear at the bottom of your listings.
• State: If you are
looking for items in a particular state, use the State pulldown
menu. This will give you a better listing of items within
your potential shipping distance.
• View items posted in the
last: Choose from one day, seven days or 30 days to
immediately see recent items added to the system.
• Maximum results:
This pulldown menu allows you to customize the number of results
you would like to see on each page. Simply select 20, 50 or
100, depending on the quantity you wish to view at one time.
There are other exciting features on the
search results page besides the search panel itself.
• Photos:
Those items that have photos have a small image of a photograph
located on the right of the description. This will allow you
to view those items that you can see the actual product immediately.
• Re-sort: You also
have the ability to re-sort your results based on item name
and expiration. You will notice that the titles of these two
columns are actually links. Just click on Item Name or End
Date to re-sort your photos.
OUTSIDE
THE U.S. We welcome our HorseJockey.com visitors
from other countries. If you are from outside the U.S., make
sure to select your correct country below. For state, select
the most appropriate abbreviation for your country. At the
bottom of the state list, you will see CN (Canada), MX (Mexico)
and OT (Other).
Also, if you are not from the U.S., Canada
or Mexico, please choose Other in the country pulldown menu.
Also make sure you add your country with your city in the
city field.

are from the United States. Because most people will be shipping
large items, your location will more than likely be taken
into account as sellers select winning bids. All dollar amounts
as listed in United States dollars, or USD.
BID
DEFAULT
It is possible that a person may bid on an item, you award
them the item and there is a problem with completing the
transaction. Maybe there isn't a good way to deliver the
item, or maybe the bidder just backs out of the deal. No
worry, you can put your item back on the site by following
these simple steps. Remember, a bidder that has an accepted
bid but does not complete the purchase may be blocked from
the
HorseJockey
system.
1. Contact us at and alert us to the situation. Please make sure to list to
the item number and your name, username and email address.
Any other information regarding the situation would be beneficial
as well.
2. The administrator will renew your item based on the amount
of time you have remaining when originally placing the ad.
It is up to the administrator's disgression as to how much
longer your ad will be posted. Please provide information
in an email that would give an idea of how long the ad should
be renewed.
3. You will receive verification from the administrator saying
that your ad is live again in the system.
4.
Login and click
on the link called View your current items for
sale
(history).
5. Find the particular item and click on the
bid link or the item title. The item will probably be marked Closed.
6. Navigate to the bid that reads Accepted. This is the bid you now would like
to decline. Click the decline button. The person who originally won the bid will
receive a declined email.
7. You may want to block this bidder to avoid this instance again with the same
bidder.
8. At this point, you may also want to alert those bidders who have declined
bids that the item is again available. When you accept
a bid, all other pending bids are marked as declined.
